I am a freelance consultant offering social research and editorial services.

 

I have over 20 years' experience of carrying out, commissioning and managing social research, and extensive experience of writing and editing a wide range of documents for the academic, corporate, public and third sectors.

    

 

Career history

 

Before embarking on a freelance career, I worked as a social researcher in the Scottish Government in a variety of roles and across a range of policy areas. Key to this work was ensuring the provision of robust evidence for the policy process, and producing high quality written material for different audiences. This background has provided me with the perfect blend of skills and expertise to offer clients both research and editorial services.

 

 

Research experience

 

As a researcher, I specialise in qualitative and consultation-related research and analysis. I have worked on a number of large-scale mixed-method evaluations and high profile public consultations, making use of my strong research and report writing skills. I am also experienced at working with clients to develop research programmes and projects, commissioning, managing and disseminating research, and reviewing existing research evidence.

 

My skills are transferable across policy areas, but I have specific experience of working in the civil law, health and social care, and demography fields, and also offer expertise in relation to civic participation, consultation and engagement activities.

 

Throughout my career, I have collaborated successfully with policy makers, academics and other researchers and analysts.

Editorial experience

 

I am the author (or co-author) of a number of significant research reports, and have also acted as series editor for multi-project research programmes. In addition, I have edited and prepared for publication a range of reports and papers produced by others. My freelance work has included editing research reports, and corporate report and brochures for organisational clients, and working with academics and students on journal articles, funding applications, theses and dissertations.
